Master Trainers Training Program for Dyslexia and ADHD Organised by Empowerment of persons with disability department at PKMC

Pushpa Khanna Memorial Centre proudly partnered with Empowerment of Persons with Disability Department, Kanpur Nagar in organizing Master Trainers Training Program for Dyslexia and ADHD from 15th February to 19th February (11-4pm). The program was inaugurated by Dr. Mahendra KumarJi, (IAS) Chief Development Officer, Kanpur Nagar, who is also MBBS, MD (Radiology) from AIIMS, Delhi. We also had the proud presence of Dr. Yashvant Kumar Rao Ji, HOD Pediatric department, GSVM Medical College Kanpur. We heartfully thank Shri Akhilesh Bajpai ji, Deputy Director, Empowerment of Persons with Disability Department, Kanpur Nagar.

 The workshop was opened by Ms. Ruma Chaturvedi, Director PKMC wherein she shared that almost 10 % of the school going kids have LD or ADHD and emphasized the need for such kind of training program for the educators. She introduced the participants to the incidence of LD and ADHD and impressed upon them the need for urgent measures. Ms. Veena Basu, Director BVerve, Mumbai explained the common characteristics, symptoms and difficulties faced by them. 

On second day, Ms. Pragya Bajpai, Special Educator shared the screening tool for Dyslexia. Testing for LD and ADHD was explained through formal reports and examples by Dr. Tarannum Naheed Khan, Clinical Psychologist. Dr. Kumud Srivastav, shared the remedial measures to be applied for. 

The highlight of third day was an extremely informative and engaging session by Dr. Akhilendra Kumar ex Dy Commissioner Divyangjan UP. Dr. Shikha Agrawal, Centre Head, Prerna Special School emphasized on goal setting for Kids with LD and ADHD.  Dr. Abha Singh, HOD Psychology, PPN college explained the usefulness of psycho counselling and the various therapies used for kids with LD and ADHD. Ms Neelam Basal lecturer in special education (ID) CRC Lucknow talked about importance of early intervention for kids with LD and ADHD.

The 4th day was opened by Dr. Alok Bajpai, Psychiatrist wherein he talked about the medical treatments related to LD and ADHD . Later during the day Dr. Deepti Tiwari, Director Sankalp explained the role of teachers and Ms. Archana Mehrotra, Branch Head NLK’s Disha explained the remedial measures in a classroom setting.

The 5th day had a scintillating start by Dr. Brij Bhushan, Professor IIT, Kanpur explaining innovative teaching methods, tools and their use. It was followed by Dr. Aradhana Gupta, Director, Reformation sharing practical strategies and tips to help LD and ADHD kids.

We are grateful to Dr. S. K. Srivastava, State Commissioner (For Persons with Disabilities) Department of Persons with Disabilities, Govt. of U.P. for chairing the valedictory session and awarding certificates to the participants at Master Trainers Training Program for Dyslexia and ADHD from 15th February to 19th February (11-4pm). He enlightened the participants with government schemes and measures and motivated them to be the torch bearers for the disability movement.

Sh. Akhilesh Bajpai ji, Deputy Director, Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities and Ms. Ruma Chaturvedi , Director, PKMC also spoke at length about the necessity of master trainers taking the knowledge gained to the their workspace and implementing them.
